Happy Monday everyone! Thanks so much for stopping by and reading. I’d also love to give a big shoutout to my readers last week. Your kind messages and supportive comments on Vogue 1783 meant so much to me last week. I’ve recently been eyeing vintage patterns and vintage reproductions from the Big 4 pattern companies. The Simplicity Creative Group released their Fall pattern line a few months back and Simplicity 9371 immediately caught my eye.
Simplicity 9371 Pattern Description
Simplicity 9371 is a reissue from the 1960s. It’s a pattern with three views with options for sleeves, collars, and cuffs. I chose View C. View C is a short sleeved dress with a self back belt and decorative buttons. Before I made the pattern in my chosen fabric, I made a muslin of it to check out the fit and the length. I loved the muslin, but I wanted it slightly shorter so that I could feel like Donyale Luna or even Twiggy. The pattern doesn’t have the standard lengthen and shorten lines, so I ended up trimming 6 inches from the dress. However, I must say all other aspects of the pattern are great. The fit is outstanding.

Fabric Choice
For Simplicity 9371, the fabric choices run the gamut. Most fabrics are an option here. I chose a red cotton print remnant from Selvedge and Bolts I bought a few months ago. It’s a red, black, and white semi geometric print. I was really excited about the make and how it would turn out.

Garment Construction
So this pattern doesn’t have many pieces. However, the pattern is quite unique in that the side front is angled in the hip area. I had a bit of a hard time connecting the center front to the side front. I had the same issue when I sewed the muslin, so I was ready with the main fabric. It took some patience, but your girl did it. I love the little details of this pattern that make the dress feel so special. I love the decorative pockets and the back belt. They’re design details that add a certain je ne sais quoi for the dress. I feel like a million bucks every time I wear it.
Final Thoughts on Simplicity 9371
I adore Simplicity 9371. I love it so much that I bought 3 more copies of the pattern. I’d love to try this in a solid color so that buttons and the belt to really pop and give it an elevated feel. The only other thing I would change about my make is the color of the buttons. The black buttons blend in a little with the black on the dress and white could’ve avoided that.
As always, thank you so much for reading. Happy sewing!
