Happy Monday everyone! Thanks for stopping by and reading. After last week’s jumpsuit post, I was inspired to make a work pant. I don’t have many pant patterns in my stash, but I had Simplicity 8701. I purchased this pattern because the model did her job and made me want the pants. Described as a hackable pattern, I decided to go for the simplest make, which are the general wide leg pants. I went with a fabric and button from Joann Fabrics. It’s a sturdy, navy-colored cotton twill. It sewed up well and the fraying wasn’t too bad.
General Review
I normally do a breakdown of the sewing components, but this is gonna be a pretty short post. The pattern has great instructions. They’re very easy to follow along to and the instructions for the zipper are top-notch. I would actually refer back to these instructions the next time I make a pair of pants. The only thing I truly like about the pattern is the guidance.

Otherwise, this pattern is very meh. My least favorite thing to do when it comes to sewing is having to adjust the garment once it’s been made. The sizing is completely off. There’s entirely too much ease. It’s also stated in the instructions that the pants should sit 1 inch under the waist. Totally off for me. They sat just above the hip for me. The fit just felt odd. i also had to take in the pants.

I don’t think I’ll be making Simplicity 8701 again. They photograph well, but the fun about fashion is not only looking food, but feeling good. As I said, I feel very meh in these. They’ll probably get donated. Hopefully, someone will get some use out of them. For those interested, the top I’m wearing is McCall 8180.
Thanks for reading. Happy Sewing!
