Happy Sunday everyone!

I hope everyone’s spring season is off to a lovely start. Today, I bring you another pattern hack with Simplicity 9649. The last pattern I hacked was Vogue 1726. The pattern is part of the early spring 2022 release and it’s the perfect beginner pattern.
Simplicity 9469 Pattern Description
Simplicity 9469 is a pullover top in tunic or hip lengths feature V-shaped and cut out necklines with self ties. Three-quarter and elbow length sleeves gather to elastic. View B has waistline elastic creating peplum look. I decided to go for view B and I extended the front and back top pieces by 6 inches. There aren’t that many pieces and the pattern can be made within a day. I used a yellow floral rayon challis I picked up in the fall.

Garment Construction
To be completely honest, this is the quickest and easiest make in my sewing history. First, I stay stitched the neck edges of the front and the back pieces. Then, I made the cute tie ends for the keyhole neckline and basted them to the front. I had practice with this technique with New Look N6692. Once the ties were on, I attached the front and back together at the shoulders. At this point, the dress is basically half way done. Then I attached the facings to the dress. A tip here is to pay close attention to the stitching lines for the front. It’s very useful. I’ve also learned that with facings, you’re better off clipping TO NOT THROUGH the stitches to help the facing lay flat.
Once the facings are attached, press press press or whatever Cardi B said. Then, I stop stitched the dress for a cleaner finish. Then, I stitched the side seams together and attached the sleeves. I tried the dress on at this point and it felt very 70s, but I was committed to the hack. Lastly, I used bias tape as a casing for the elastic and inserted the elastic. Then, I hemmed it. Voila, the dress was done.

Final Thoughts
This is a great beginner project. I’m not sure if I would make it again because it serves its purpose. I would recommend this for all sewists because depending on the fabric, it can be a beach cover-up, a day to day dress, or even a lounge dress. The options are endless.

Happy sewing!
