New Look N6692 for Fall

Happy Monday, everyone! Thank you for coming by to read about New Look pattern N6692. This pattern was part of New Look’s Summer 2021 collection. I picked it up at my local Joann, but didn’t quite know what fabric I would use. Fast Forward to Autumn and I stumbled upon a floral rayon print at the fabric store. I’ve never worked with rayon before, but there’s no time like the present. I’ll break this make down into four parts: the bodice, the gathered skirt, the sleeves, and the ruffled piece.

The Bodice of New Look N6692

The bodice of front came together rather quickly. I think the bodice front can be done in 30 minutes or less. The interesting thing about the bodice back is that instead of shirring thread, elastic is used and I’m so thrilled about that. For me, it feels more secure than shirring and I don’t have sew for hours. It’s also much faster than shirring. Another aspect of the bodice I really appreciate are the tie ends. It’s a very thoughtful detail that’s cute and adds security to the bodice. Overall, I adore how the bodice turned out. My one negative about the bodice is the lining portion of it. I’m not sure if I made an error, but the bodice wasn’t long enough to cover the main fabric seams. I had to slipstitch the lining to the main fabric.

The Skirt

The skirt for the pattern is a standard gathered skirt. My favorite part of of the skirt are the pockets. Pockets just make dresses 10x better. I also love that the pockets are deep. At times, I’ve had issues with stitching the bodice and the skirt together, but this wasn’t so bad. The only complaint I have about the skirt, and I guess the pattern is the zipper. The pattern calls for a 16 inch zipper. While I was sewing the skirt though, once it came time to put in the zipper, the pattern gave instructions for an invisible zipper. I bought a regular zipper from the store, but I had to run back and get an invisible zipper, so I lost some time there. Once I got through that issue, boom, I completed the main dress!

The Sleeve

I love a puff sleeve. I honestly don’t understand how they ever went out of style, but I’m so glad they’ve been around for the past couple of years. The puff sleeve for this pattern is sort of a muted puff sleeve if that makes sense. It’s there, but it’s not in your face. I also love the elastic casing for the lower portion of the sleeve

The Ruffle

I love that the ruffle of the dress adds drama to the look and feel of the dress. But this was a challenge for me. The general construction of the ruffle wasn’t difficult. It actually was one of the more simple aspects of the pattern. Now, attaching the ruffle to the skirt, wow – what a challenge. This is one of the things I love about sewing – every project is a new challenge to overcome. I sewed this right sides up, but I had to unpick a few of sections and re-sew them quite a bit. After the ruffle drama, I pressed the dress and clipped hanging threads and the beautiful dress emerged.

Thank you so much for reading about my experience making New Look N6692. I adore the finished dress and would definitely recommend it for a beginner. Happy Sewing!

Thank you for the review. The ruffle part has been the worse for me. I’ve been battling it for a couple days or weeks! Now that I know it’s definitely not me making this issue up, I think I can press on! Thanks again!

      Hi M,

I know right! I toyed with the idea of making it a tier, but I’m sure you’ll be able to do it! Best of luck!
