Simple Sewing with Simplicity 8839

Happy Monday everyone! Thank you so much for stopping by and reading. My latest make is Simplicity 8839. Since March 2021, I’ve read numerous blogs and seen Instagram posts about go-to patterns. I’ve made patterns that I think I would make again, but I haven’t quite gotten around to it. Simplicity 8839 is my new go-to pattern. I ADORE this pattern. It’s such a dainty, but elegant pattern.

I decided to make this pattern in View A, which has the elasticated portions in the sleeves. I’ve seen these sleeves quite a bit lately. They’re very on trend at the moment. They also remind me of the 1970s for some odd reason. The 70s definitely inspired the l outfit.

The fabric came from Joann Fabrics. It’s an embroidered cotton that I picked up in the remnants bin. Hot Tip: The remnants bin is generally 50% off and there are plenty of gems there. The shirt came together rather quickly. I know it feels like a summer fabric, but if you made it, you can wear it all your round and get the cost per wear down. There are a few pieces: the sleeves, the back bodice, front bodice, and the facings. For view A, the shirt was as simple as sewing in the darts, sewing the front and back bodice at the side seams, and putting in the sleeves and the hem. From my point of view, the sleeves weren’t difficult, but definitely time consuming. Like I said in my review of McCall 7974, just throw on an episode of Top Chef to get you through the construction of the sleeves. It’s definitely worth it.

This is a pattern that I would definitely recommend for a beginner and would make over and over again through the seasons. Thanks for reading. Happy Sewing!
