Holiday Magic in the Air with McCall 7832

Happy Monday everyone! Thank you so much for stopping by and reading. Today, I bring to you my festive version of McCall 7832. I really wanted to make myself a holiday dress this year in a bright red and I accomplished that with McCall 7832.

Pattern Description

The pattern is a simple darted bodice attached to a skirt with a full lining. The pattern has 4 options with 2 sleeve options. I ended up picking the view with the fuller skirt, view D. View D doesn’t have pockets as an option, but that’s a quick hack. I attached the pockets 1/2 inch from the side front and back pieces. The pattern doesn’t have a belt piece, but I used the belt from Vogue 1719. Similar to other patterns, I knew there would be too much ease and that the belt would elevate the look.

Garment Construction

McCall 7832 has 7 pieces I believe for View D. The bodice front, the bodice back, the side front skirt, the front skirt, the back skirt, the voluminous sleeves, and my additions of the pockets and belt. I used red taffeta fabric from Mood Fabrics and an orange lining, also from Mood. Fun fact, when I started sewing, this is one of the first patterns I picked up. I bought it because of its “easy rating”. Even though I agree the pattern is easy, I’m not sure I would’ve been able to make it simply because of the full lining. Yes, the lining is the exact same thing as the dress, but lining fabrics are so slippery. I’ve read that bemberg lining is the best and after this make, I’ll probably switch over to save myself the headache. I serged the lining because I didn’t wanna deal with the hem.

Final Thoughts

I really like this dress. It’s a simple make and it gets me in the holiday spirit. The of the addition belt makes me feel like Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face. I think it’s more of a fashion girl’s movie than Breakfast at Tiffany’s, though why pit two greats against each other. In any case, thank you for stopping by and reading. I’ll be back in the New Year. Happy Holidays everyone and even happier sewing.
