Happy New Year everyone! Thank you so much for stopping by! As I was scanning through my makes of 2021, I realized that I’ve only made a couple of shirts. The first was a New Look pattern that I made pre Darts and Pleats and the second is Simplicity 8839. It felt like it was time for a new pattern. I wanted something with a statement sleeve that I could wear via video for work and something that didn’t feel too dressy. I went with New Look 6678. The pattern has two options: the button up top and straight leg pants. The pants aren’t so much my taste, but the top is. It’s a great pattern because it doesn’t require much fabric and the only notions are thread, 1/2 inch elastic and four 1/2 inch buttons.

Fabric Choice
There are plenty of fabric choices for New Look 6678. However, I wanted the puff sleeve to have and to keep its structure, so I opted for a cotton poplin from Mood Fabrics. The pattern calls for a little over a yard with 60 inch fabric. But your girl made it work with one yard. The cotton poplin has just enough stretch to create the perfect button down shirt.
Garment Construction
New Look 6678 comes together quite quickly. The pattern comprises the two front pieces, the back facing, the sleeves, the back, which is cut on the fold, and the front facing. My favorite component of the top are the darts. There are darts on the back and the front and they improve the fit of the top. I also adore the sleeves. It’s a puff sleeve with elasticated cuffs. The top hem is 1 1/4 inches and it works. I was worried the top would be too cropped, but nope. The pattern makers knew what they were doing with this pattern.
Final Thoughts
I would definitely make New Look 6678 again. It’s beautiful, quick to make, and makes me feel good, which is probably the most important aspect of fashion. It’s also a pattern that I would love to attach a skirt to. I saw a few skirt attachments on Instagram, that were cute. If you’d like to check them out, the tag is #N6678.

Thank you so much for reading. Happy Sewing!
