Hello everyone! Welcome to my very first blog post. As Oscar Wilde once said, “and all at once, summer collapsed into fall” and it feels so true this year. We blinked and fall was here. I wanted my first post to be representative of the season. When I began my sewing journey, I spotted a beautiful vintage cotton print on Etsy and I had to have it. I wanted to pay homage to the mod styles of the 1960s, but I didn’t have the confidence or the pattern for it.
Fast forward a few months and Joann Fabrics is having a Burda pattern sale. It was then that I came across Burda 6721 and I knew I had my perfect pattern for the fabric. Up until now, I had only used patterns from the Big 4, but the pattern was rated as super easy and I knew I could manage. I decided I would create the pattern in View C with the pockets of View A.
The pattern has bust darts and back darts. It was my first time sewing back darts on a dress and I think they came out well. Once I got the back darts out of the way and put the zipper in (yay, I did it!), the dress came together rather quickly.
After putting in the zipper, I put the bust darts in the front of the dress and stitched the side seams together. At this point, I got very excited because I started to see the dress come together. It’s one thing to have a vision think this fabric would work really well with this pattern and it’s another thing to have it realized. Ahhh – the joys of sewing.
I then put in the neck facings, then the adorable patch pockets, the sleeves, and voila the dress was complete after the hem and a thorough press.
I just love how the dress came out and it’s a great fit.
